POLICE recruits in Papua New Guinea are now into their second trimester of their nine-month training at Bomana outside Port Moresby.
Assistant police commissioner, training, John Kolopen said the training consisted of three trimesters.
He said in the first three months, the recruits were sent out to police stations citywide for three weeks.
“They have now started trimester two, and they should be doing the prosecution part of the training,” he said.

“They looked at basic police duties, station duties, statement takings, they looked after cell management, day and night patrols.
“We’ve also had them look at motorist patrols, the dog unit as well as water police, and the major one every morning and afternoon was traffic duties.”
Kolopen said there were about 500 selected, but due to accommodation and space, they took the first batch of 222 recruits. He said the second batch of 221 would be taken in next year.
Kolopen said the prosecution training would include having the recruits gain confidence in preparing proper court files, how to work on cases and mock trials, and how to file submissions in court.
