PNG's KPHL to Sponsor Top STEM Students for Overseas Studies

Twenty top graduates from Papua New Guinea’s schools of excellence will benefit from Kumul Petroleum Holding Limited’s (KPHL) new initiative to fund overseas studies in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), starting in 2025.

According to KPHL’s corporate secretary, Dianne Aikung, the company will sponsor these students in partnership with the government. Aikung made this announcement during the Wawin Centre of Excellence Grade 12 graduation in Morobe on Friday.

"KPHL, in partnership with the government, is committed to supporting STEM education and will sponsor students to pursue their studies at an overseas university," Aikung stated. "We are currently working with the Department of Higher Education, Research, and Technology to finalize the arrangements for these placements."

She further emphasized the importance of investing in human resources, stating that for KPHL, the development of people is just as critical as infrastructure and services for the nation’s prosperity. Additionally, she revealed that graduates returning from their overseas STEM studies will be offered positions in KPHL's graduate development program.

Aikung also highlighted that both male and female employees should have equal opportunities to compete for senior management and directorial roles in the public and private sectors, particularly in STEM and other disciplines.
