FODE Embraces Digital Transformation with New E-Learning Application

Flexible Open and Distance Education (FODE) is set to eliminate manual enrolment record-keeping with the launch of a new e-learning application for web and mobile platforms. Education Department Secretary Dr. Uke Kombra announced this initiative during a provincial coordinator's financial management workshop in Lae.

The week-long workshop, themed "Empowering Education: Financial Literacy for a Secured Future," aimed to enhance financial literacy among education coordinators. Dr. Kombra emphasized the importance of financial management skills in making informed decisions and securing a prosperous future. He stated, "Financial management skills are essential for making informed decisions, setting goals, and taking control of our financial well-being."

The newly launched e-learning application is designed to streamline the collection of real-time student data, which will aid in effective information planning and budgeting. Dr. Kombra highlighted that this development marks a significant step in modernizing the education system.

First Assistant Secretary for FODE and Inclusive Education Division, Andrew Angobe, stressed the need for staff readiness in adopting this technological advancement. Coordinators were provided with tablets pre-installed with the FODE application. These tablets will facilitate the entry and submission of student information directly to the headquarters' system.

Dr. Kombra praised the efforts of the FODE and Inclusive Education Division, established in 2022, for their innovative approach to improving student services. He noted, "The launch of this application is a testament to our commitment to enhancing education through technology."

Furthermore, Grade 12 FODE students will use the national online application system this year. Bridget Nakos from the Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology Department confirmed that both school leavers and non-school leavers would apply simultaneously, ensuring a fair and unified selection process.

This digital transformation in enrolment and application systems signifies a major advancement in education management in Papua New Guinea, promising increased efficiency and accessibility for students and educators alike.
