Police Training Program Expands with Second Batch Set for September Launch

The Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary (RPNGC) has announced that training for the second batch of police recruits will commence on September 24, 2024. This follows the successful graduation of the first batch, where 217 recruits completed their training at Bomana Police College on May 24, 2024, and have since been deployed to various provinces.

Out of 256 candidates initially shortlisted for the second batch, 14 have declined their offers, resulting in 242 confirmed recruits who will undergo a rigorous nine-month training program at Bomana Training College. Notably, 32 of these recruits are female, highlighting the Constabulary's commitment to promoting gender equality within law enforcement.

The first group of recruits arrived in Port Moresby this morning from multiple provinces, including West Sepik, Madang, Morobe, Eastern Highlands, Simbu, Jiwaka, Western Highlands, Southern Highlands, East New Britain, West New Britain, New Ireland, Oro, and Milne Bay. Detailed joining instructions and necessary preparations for the training program have been provided to all recruits.

The RPNGC HR Recruitment Team is currently coordinating travel arrangements with Provincial Training Officers to facilitate the arrival of the incoming recruits. The Constabulary is dedicated to enhancing its recruitment process to ensure inclusivity and the selection of competent candidates, with a specific focus on achieving fair representation of women in future recruitment efforts.

During the recent recruitment drive, 481 applicants met the eligibility criteria, but due to limited capacity at Bomana Training College, recruits were divided into two batches. The successful completion of the first batch's training has cleared the way for the second group to proceed.

Looking ahead, the RPNGC aims to expand its personnel and enhance its capacity, with the upcoming recruitment drive for 2024-2025 set to commence in October 2024. The Constabulary encourages interested individuals to prepare their documents and stay informed by regularly checking the RPNGC’s official website and local newspapers for recruitment announcements. This focus on improving gender equality and inclusivity reflects the RPNGC's commitment to fostering a diverse and capable police force.
