Students Explore Aviation Careers at PNG Aviation Day during the inaugural PNG Aviation Day and Career Expo held at APEC Haus in Port Moresby on Thursday, September 26. The event, organized by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) of Papua New Guinea, provided an opportunity for secondary school and technical college students to learn about various career paths within the aviation industry.

Air Niugini was among several aviation stakeholders participating in the event, showcasing its products and services through two information booths—one for its Engineering Department and the other for Flight Operations, which included pilots and cabin crew. Ten organizations and institutions, including the National Airports Corporation (NAC), PNG Accident Investigation Commission (AIC), Total Energies, PNG Air, Aiyura AME, and Acatech Training Organization, also participated.

Promoting the theme "Raising Awareness and Inspiring the Next Generation of Aviation Professionals in PNG," the expo allowed students to engage with industry representatives and gather insights into aviation careers. At Air Niugini's engineering booth, Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineers (LAMEs) Lindah Eremas, Allan Gaige, and Structures Engineer Dailo Teibi provided guidance, while First Officer on Dash 8, Kanawi Popei, flight attendant Jeremy Nungwehim, and Richard Terence from Air Niugini Aviation Security represented the Flight Operations booth.

LAME Eremas encouraged students to work hard to achieve their goals, emphasizing the importance of a positive attitude. “You can be smart, but if you don’t have the right attitude, you will not get far. The engineering profession deals with people’s lives and safety, so having a positive and right attitude is paramount,” she said.

The CASA PNG Aviation Safety Conference also coincided with the Aviation Day and Career Expo. Air Niugini Chief Executive Officer Gary Seddon addressed the conference, encouraging aspiring aviation professionals to embrace the challenges of the dynamic industry.

“We need more pilots, engineers, safety professionals, and regulators to ensure the continued safety and growth of our sector. Air Niugini is committed to working with educational institutions, regulatory bodies, and industry partners to provide the necessary training and career pathways for the next generation of aviation practitioners,” Seddon stated.
