Grade 8 Examination and Assessment

Students are assessed in three core areas:

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Combined Subject

Each subject carries a maximum of 50 points, making a total of 150 points. The national benchmark for eligibility is 80 points; however, provincial authorities may adjust this threshold depending on the number of available school places. In some cases, students with lower scores may still be placed if space permits.

Grade 9 Selections and School Placement

After results are processed and students meet the required cut-off, they are allocated to secondary or high schools in their province. The selection process ensures that available school spaces are filled fairly while taking academic performance into account. Cut-off points may vary across provinces due to differences in demand and school capacity.
