High Grade 12 dropouts missing out on colleges, university spaces in PNG concerning: Koim

Papua New Guinea (PNG)'s Internal  Revenue Commission (IRC) Commissioner General Sam Koim says he cannot understand why colleges and universities in Papua New Guinea  do not have enough space to cater for eligible students.

“There are many other streams that can be explored to mitigate the problem of Grade 12 dropouts,” he said.

Koim was commenting on the issues of high number of Grade 12 dropouts in Papua New Guinea.

“We also need to encourage Papua New Guineans to be curious and challenge themselves to seize opportunities and create more opportunities.

“The introduction of small-and- medium enterprises (SME) by the Government is a better pathway that every individual can tap into and apply their own professional skills,” he added.

Koim said the SME business tax regime had been set up to provide the opportunity to those who want to venture into creating their own small and budding businesses.

He said job opportunity was the biggest challenge and that everyone had to think “out of the box” to create employment for themselves.
