Sharon Works to build UPNG School of Medicine and Health Science Female Residential Hall

We normally get comments like, hey how come you doing a man’s job – I tell them that I can do men’s job any day and whether they like it or not, I will still do my best to deliver. And with my attitude towards work, I have gained respect from them,” says Sharon Katari.

Sharon is proud to be part of Digara Construction Ltd., working to build a new female students’ dormitory at the University of PNG School of Medicine and Health Sciences, funded by a PGK8.1 million #PNGAusPartnership Incentive Fund grant.

When completed, the new female student 40-bed dormitory will strengthen PNG’s health workforce by improving access to and quality of local education opportunities. The project was launched in August 2022 and is anticipated to be completed in June 2023.

The #PNGAusPartnership’s Incentive Fund and its partners are encouraged to meaningfully employ and engage women in all project activities, including building and construction. Not only does this benefit women like Sharon, but it also helps companies access a new workforce to deliver their goals and at the same time inspires a new generation of women to consider building and construction as a career path.
