Over 200,000 Students to sit PNG National Examinations in 2023

 MORE than 200,000 students in grades Eight, 10 and 12 from more than 4,000 schools in Papua New Guinea  are expected to sit their final examinations next month.

PNG Education Department secretary Dr Uke Kombra said 249,189 students from 4,207 schools had been nominated for the 2023 examinations.

They include:


  •  141,366 Grade Eight students from 3,538 primary schools;’
  •  76,571 Grade 10 students from 448 high/secondary schools; and,
  •  31,252 Grade 12 students from 221 secondary or national high schools of excellence.

Kombra said the Grade 10 students would be the first to sit for the examination from Oct 9 to 13.

The Grade 12 students will sit their examinations from Oct 16 to 20.

Students in Grade Eight will sit theirs from Oct 23-26.

He said 324 Grade 12 Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (Stem) students would sit their examination after Grade Eight.

“The Stem students will have two examinations: Stem and Upper Secondary. They would be awarded two certificates,” Kombra said.

Kombra warned teachers and students to complete the examinations without “cheating”.

“We will not compromise any form of cheating or malpractice in the examinations.

“We have taken all measures possible to ensure that there is no cheating.

“I want to see examination results based on students’ commitment and effort put in their studies.”

Kombra urged all students to prepare well for their examinations.

All examination papers have arrived in the country and the department would distribute them to schools before the examinations.
