Australia is partnering with Pacific Adventist University and offering scholarships for midwifery students through Australia Awards PNG program scholarships. These scholarships contribute to better healthcare, ensuring that there is qualified midwifery workforce to improve child and maternal health in PNG.
Marshella Kailou Masiu won the PNGAusPartnership Prize in recognition for her academic and leadership excellence. Marshella is eager to apply her training to help end preventable childbirth injuries and enhance maternal healthcare for Papua New Guinean women.
"After spending ten years as a general nurse, it was a challenge adjusting in terms of returning to school and keeping up with academic expectations. But through this [scholarship], I’ve learned that anything is possible if you put your mind to it. I’m excited to get back into the field and help expectant mothers and their babies,” Marshella said.
The graduating awardees join a network of over 700 midwives who have been trained under the Australia Awards In-PNG Scholarships since 2012.
