PNG and China sign agreement to Develop Higher Education in PNG

 Papua  New Guinea Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology Minister and Kandep MP Don Polye will sign an agreement with the Chinese government to develop the higher education sector.

“All institutions and their specific study programmes will be enhanced to quality in the higher education space,” Polye said.

He had talks with the Chinese education minister during his recent visit to the country to partner and improve areas of science, technology, research and academic programmes.

“The Chinese government have given an additional 20 post graduates scholarships for Papua New Guineans to study various programmes in China,” Polye said. “We have to partner with countries who are advancing in the higher education sector in knowledge development to lift the profile of our academic development.”

Polye will also have talks with the Asian Development Bank in Manila to improve infrastructure facilities of technical vocational education training (Tvet) centres and colleges in the country.

“Work has started on the first phase with contract signing, upon my visit, I will ask them to give us second and third phases to give a facelift on technical skills development,” Polye explained.

“Most of our Tvet centres are affected by poor infrastructure that have never been maintained over the years.”
