Tertiary Selections Report for New Ireland Province 2025

 The Department of Higher Education, Research, Science, and Technology (DHERST) has released the 2025 tertiary selection results for New Ireland Province, highlighting the academic success of students in the region.




Performance Overview

Below is the summary of tertiary placements for schools in New Ireland Province:


  1. Lihir Secondary: 71 students secured places, with 23 in Business College, 3 in Teachers College, 21 in Technical College, and 24 in universities.
  2. Utu Secondary: 59 students were selected, distributed as 20 in Business College, 2 in School of Nursing, 2 in Teachers College, 18 in Technical College, and 17 in universities.
  3. OLSH International: 24 students gained admission, with 8 in Business College, 1 in Teachers College, 5 in Technical College, and 10 in universities.
  4. Boliu Secondary: 6 students were selected, with 1 in Business College, 2 in Technical College, and 3 in universities.
  5. Mangai Secondary: 19 students secured places, with 7 in Business College, 3 in Teachers College, 7 in Technical College, and 2 in universities.
  6. Non-School Leavers: 13 students were selected, with 6 in Business College, 2 in Teachers College, 3 in Technical College, and 2 in universities.
  7. New Hanover Secondary: 1 student was selected for Teachers College.
  8. Madina Girls Secondary: 13 students gained admission, with 5 in Business College, 1 in School of Nursing, 4 in Teachers College, and 3 in Technical College.
  9. Nasko Secondary: 1 student was selected for Business College.
  10. Mongop Secondary: 2 students were selected for Business College.
  11. Namatanai Secondary: 21 students secured places, with 14 in Business College, 1 in School of Nursing, 2 in Teachers College, and 4 in Technical College.

Overall Results

A total of 230 students from New Ireland Province secured places in tertiary institutions, categorized as follows:


  • 87 students to Business Colleges.
  • 4 students to Schools of Nursing.
  • 18 students to Teachers Colleges.
  • 63 students to Technical Colleges.
  • 58 students to universities.
