According to Education Secretary Dr. Uke Kombra, a total of 244,040 students are participating in this year’s national examinations—87,500 in Grade 10, 36,540 in Grade 12, and 120,000 in Grade 8. He confirmed that all student nominations were verified through the Education Department’s online data system and that all Grade 10 exam papers were successfully dispatched and administered on schedule.

Dr. Kombra assured that marking arrangements have been carefully planned to ensure fairness and consistency across all grades. Grade 10 answer scripts from the National Capital District will be marked locally before being sent to provincial centers. Grade 12 papers will be assessed in Port Moresby from October 19 to November 1, while Grade 8 scripts will be marked within their respective provinces following their exams later in October.

The department is working closely with provincial administrations and security agencies to maintain order during the exam period. Strict warnings have been issued against malpractice, with serious consequences including non-certification for students, termination of teachers, or even suspension of schools for up to three years in cases of misconduct.

“Cheating has been eliminated, and exam results now truly reflect students’ effort, providing reliable benchmarks for education,” Dr. Kombra said. He extended his best wishes to all Grade 12 students as they prepare to begin their exams, encouraging them to stay focused and confident throughout the testing period.
